WebYoungstown is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Mahoning County; it also extends into Trumbull County. The municipality is situated on the Mahoning River, approximately 65 miles (105 km) southeast of Cleveland and 61 miles (100 km) northwest of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. WebYoungstown was named for New York native John Young, who surveyed the area in 1796 and settled there soon after and the city was incorporated in 1867. John Young purchased about 15,000 acres for just over $16,000 in 1797 from the United States Government through the Connecticut Western Reserve Land Company.
